Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment (CIFRA)

Overview

Introduction

The ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment is an officially recognised qualification on the Register of Regulated Qualifications which contains the qualifications and awarding organisations regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation.

Vulcan Fire Training now offer a CIFRA following our 5-day Fire Risk Assessor course or Fire Manager course.

About the qualification

The purpose of this qualification is to confirm occupational competence. Delegates must demonstrate that they are capable of carrying out fire risk assessments and have the under-pinning knowledge needed, at the required depth.

This is a self-directed qualification, not a training course. Delegates need to be carrying out Fire Risk Assessments in order to complete this qualification.

The qualification is a total of 300 hours including 130 hours of guided learning.

Vulcan Fire Training has developed guidance to give clarity on what is required for each of the 4 Units. This documentation is supplied to delegates as part of the qualification materials.

Fire Risk Assessors who wish to attain a qualification proving their competency.

What will you be able to do after completing the qualification?

Upon successful completion of the qualification, delegates can apply to join the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) Tiered Fire Risk Assessors Register (TFRAR).

Course content

Unit 1 Work in a safe and professional manner

Delegates provide a portfolio of evidence to justify a specified number of guided learning hours.

Unit 2 Fundamental principles and concepts for fire risk assessment

Delegates provide a portfolio of evidence to justify a specified number of guided learning hours.

Unit 3 Prepare to undertake fire risk assessments

Delegates provide a portfolio of evidence to justify a specified number of guided learning hours.

Unit 4 Undertake and report on fire risk assessments

Delegates submit 3 recent fire risk assessment reports (not theoretical) as a portfolio of evidence.

Final examination

The final examination is a closed-book multiple choice paper which delegates sit AFTER successfully passing Units 1 to 4.

Note: Units must be completed in order and the final exam can only be arranged after all 4 Units have been passed.

Course options

What routes are available for undertaking the ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment?

Route 1 - L3 CIFRA

New delegates can book the Vulcan Fire Training FRA 5-day course and ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment together.

Note: Units 1 and 2 must be completed before Units 3 and 4 can be carried out and submitted.

Route 2 - L3 CIFRA

Delegates who have previously passed the Vulcan Fire Training FRA 5-day course can book the L3 CIFRA 4 Units and examination element.

Note 1: The Vulcan Fire Training FRA 5-day course counts as 35 hours towards the learning guided hours required for Unit 2.

Note 2: Delegates who have passed the Vulcan Fire Training Fire Manager 9-day course (FRA 5-day and MFS 4-day) will have covered the guided learning hours required for Unit 2.

Route 3 - L3 CIFRA

Delegates who have passed appropriate accredited fire risk assessment courses other than the Vulcan Fire Training course BEFORE MAY 2024.

This course is for new delegates booking either the Vulcan Fire Training Fire Risk Assessor 5 day course, or Fire Manager 9 day course, and ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment at the same time.
